Union of Black Episcopalians – Absalom Jones Weekend

On Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 3 p.m., at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 3801 S. Wabash, UBE will host its annual observance and celebration of the ministry of Fr. Absalom Jones, the first African American priest. Our speaker for this year will be our own Dr. Cathy J. Cohen!! UBE’s focus for this year will be on the challenges facing Black youth. If you have not yet read Cathy’s new book DEMOCRACY REMIXED, I highly recommend it! It is quite timely and most insightful! In the meantime, let us all plan to attend and represent St. Martin’s at this celebration. A dinner reception will follow.

Union of Black Episcopalians – Absalom Jones Weekend
On Saturday, February 12, 2011, from 12 noon to 3 pm, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Parish House, 3800 S. Michigan Ave., there will be a video presentation: THE POET, THE PREACHER, THE PROFESSOR focusing on the “Plight of Black Youth in the Inner City”. The video was put together by Rev. Raymond Massenburg and co-produced by Ms. Shahar Caren Weaver, both of UBE. Lunch and discussion.

St. Martin’s Episcopal Church presents a staged reading of Cheryl West’s BEFORE IT HITS HOME on Friday, January 28, 7:00PM, at the church. BEFORE IT HITS HOME has been called “an authentic, at times hysterical wake-up call to the Black community, sounded from within” and a “relentlessly observant and ruthlessly forthright… [play] about AIDS…” The reading is directed by Mignon McPherson Nance. St. Martin’s new site

Looks a lot like the old site, but we have moved the web hosting service and implemented the site with WordPress, so it will be easier to keep the site up to date with events and such.

The site’s organization can now be changed and new features provided, like the ability to order and print event tickets on-line.

So stay tuned for more improvements!
